Fathers

All of us deal with some form of brokenness from various experiences in life. I am that 1 in 4 children that come from a fatherless home (according to the 2017 U.S. Census Bureau’s report). According to the statistics from the report: the children are more likely to experience poverty, behavioral problems, incarceration, child abuse, substance abuse, childhood obesity, drop out of school and commit a crime. As I read through the above statistics, initially I thought that I managed to avoid all of them; but then, I thought about the spiritual aspect, which was way more sobering. It’s imperative to understand that as the Creator of mankind, God knows best; and has given us instructions about how to operate optimally. God knows that to live and function optimally on the earth, children NEED both Father and Mother living peacefully, in the same home. Our society has many variations of family; but these do not negate what God established in the beginning.

Fathers are vitally important  in the home. In addition to providing authority & being protectors and providers (1 Timothy 5:8 & John 15:13), they also do the following:

-Show compassion (Psalm 103:13 & Luke 15:20-24)

-Train children through discipline and instruction (Ephesians 6:4, Proverbs 19:18 & 22:6)

-Live with integrity (Proverbs 20:7)

-Give wisdom, good insight and precepts ( Proverbs 4:1-9)

-Encourage (Colossians 3:21)

-Teach his children and descendants about their covenant with God (Genesis 18:19)

-Physically corrects his children when necessary (Proverbs 13:24)

-Corrects his children (Proverbs 3:11-12)

-Embraces his children as gifts from the Lord (Psalm 127:3-5)

Happy Father’s Day to all the men who embrace the high calling of Fatherhood. I respect you!! I especially honor, respect and admire my husband. He’s such an excellent man, husband and father. Our children are so very blessed to have him as their papa. He’s a man of high integrity. He’s filled with compassion. He’s so loving to our children and me: and he’s the most courageous & excellent person I’ve ever encountered. I tell him often that he embodies the courage of Joshua and excellence of Daniel.  He’s also very silly (the kids love this about him); and my personal comedian (I laugh EVERY day). Once again, Happy Father’s Day! I hope all of you Father’s were honored in the most excellent way today….and every day.
